Description
The World’s Greatest Story is a complete Christmas cantata that takes the choir and congregation through the biblical account of the birth of Jesus Christ. Nine narration sections are woven throughout the program, drawing from Matthew 1, Matthew 2, Luke 2, and Isaiah 9, and connecting the Christmas story with a collection of beloved Christmas songs.
The cantata includes “Tell Me the Story of Jesus,” “The World’s Greatest Story,” “Mary Did You Know?,” “Silent Night,” “O Holy Night,” “The First Noel,” “O Come All Ye Faithful,” “Angels We Have Heard on High,” “Beautiful Star of Bethlehem,” “Joy to the World,” “The King of Eternity,” and “Go Tell It on the Mountain.”
Beginning with the promised and miraculous birth of Christ, the narration follows the story through Bethlehem, the shepherds, the angelic announcement, and the wise men, before turning the congregation’s attention to the identity of the Child who was born: the King of Eternity. The program concludes with the challenge to take the message of Christ beyond the Christmas service and “Go and Tell!”
Although this cantata was never recorded by the Concord Baptist Church Revival Youth Choir, soundtracks for all of the songs are available for download, making it possible for churches to prepare and present the complete program with accompaniment.
